Behdad Behzadi is an Iranian classical composer and instrumentalist based in London. Trained in the radif tradition, he performs the kamancheh and tar across Europe with original works and Persian repertoire.

Extended

Behdad Behzadi is an Iranian classical composer and instrumentalist. Born in Tehran, he began studying traditional Persian instruments as a child, taking up the kamancheh and later the tar.

His training centred on the radif: the canonical body of Iranian classical music passed teacher to student over generations. By his twenties, he was recognised as one of the most accomplished musicians of his cohort.

Following Iran's Green Movement, his compositions turned political, and mounting state pressure forced him into exile. He spent more than a decade outside Iran, separated from his family, composing under that weight.

Now based in London, Behdad Behzadi performs the catalogue he could not perform at home, alongside new work for voice, strings, and Persian classical ensemble. He continues to teach, record, and tour across Europe.
